Inside SUNWELL: Garden Tool Factory Tour & OEM/ODM Manufacturing Process

SUNWELL Tools was founded in 1988 and focuses on OEM/ODM garden-tool manufacturing. Inside SUNWELL: Three Core Garden Tool Product Systems

SUNWELL's product portfolio is organized around three core garden tool systems: Manual Garden Tools, Electric Garden Tools, and Garden Watering Products. Together, these three systems form a broad product platform for OEM/ODM programs serving retail chains, importers, distributors and garden-tool brands in Europe, North America and other markets.

1. Manual Garden Tools

Manual garden tools are one of SUNWELL's core product systems, covering pruning, cutting, planting, weeding and other everyday garden-maintenance applications.

  • Loppers — including anvil, bypass and telescopic designs for cutting branches of different sizes.
  • Hedge Shears — including standard and telescopic models for hedge shaping and general trimming.
  • Grass Shears — including rotating designs for lawn edges, flower beds and detailed trimming work.

2. Electric Garden Tools

SUNWELL's electric garden tool system complements the manual range with battery-powered products designed for more efficient garden maintenance.

3. Garden Watering Products

The garden watering system focuses on practical irrigation, hose management and outdoor watering solutions for residential gardens, yards and other outdoor applications.

  • Retractable Hose Reels — space-saving hose-reel systems designed for convenient storage and daily garden watering.
  • Garden Hoses — garden watering hoses in different lengths and specifications for a range of outdoor uses.
  • Hose Reels — hose-management products developed for organized storage and easy hose handling.
  • Nozzles — watering nozzles for different spray patterns and irrigation needs.
  • Water Cans — practical watering containers for flowers, plants and small garden areas.
  • Spray Guns — handheld watering spray guns for targeted watering and cleaning applications.
  • Ground Sprinklers — sprinkler products for lawn and garden irrigation.
  • Foam Cannons — foam-spraying accessories for outdoor cleaning and related applications.

Step 1 — Product Design and Mold Design

The production process begins before any material reaches the workshop. SUNWELL's production workflow starts with product design and mold design. Product appearance and structure can be optimized according to customer requirements or market trends, while mold design prepares the product for stable mass production.

For OEM/ODM projects, the customer requirements that need to be confirmed can include:

  • Product design and structure
  • Material selection
  • Color
  • Logo and branding
  • Packaging
  • Surface treatment and other process requirements
  • Order quantity and delivery schedule

This is an important part of SUNWELL's one-stop model: customization is not limited to putting a logo on an existing product. The service scope can extend from product optimization and mold development through production, compliance testing, logistics coordination and after-sales support.


Step 2 — Mold Manufacturing

Once the product and mold design are confirmed, the next step is mold manufacturing. Mold making turns the approved design into the tooling required for stable batch production.

For buyers developing a private-label range, this stage is especially important because tooling decisions affect the consistency of later production. SUNWELL's OEM/ODM workflow therefore places design confirmation and internal evaluation before mass production begins.


Step 3 — Metal Cutting, Stamping, Blade Grinding and Heat Treatment

The core metalworking stages include:

  1. Metal cutting
  2. Metal stamping for metal components
  3. Blade grinding to achieve the required cutting performance
  4. Heat treatment to improve hardness and durability

Across the product range, commonly used blade and tool materials include SK5, 65Mn, high-carbon steel and stainless steel. For selected products, SK5 blade hardness can reach HRC54±2. Exact material, hardness and performance specifications vary by model and should be confirmed against the relevant product specification and test report.


Step 4 — Injection Molding and Surface Treatment

After the main metal-processing stages, the production workflow continues with injection molding for plastic components such as handles and grips, followed by surface treatment.

SUNWELL uses surface treatments such as ILAFLON coating and chrome plating, with the purpose of improving anti-stick performance, wear resistance, corrosion protection and appearance depending on the product.

For OEM/ODM customers, this stage also supports visual customization because product size, material, color and packaging can be adjusted according to the target market and customer requirements.


Step 5 — Assembly and Customer-Specific Packaging

After component production and finishing, products move into assembly and packaging. Products can be assembled and packed according to customer requirements, including customized packaging for OEM/ODM programs.

This stage connects manufacturing with commercial execution: the production team must work from the confirmed customer requirements so that product specification, branding, packaging and delivery expectations remain aligned through final shipment.


Step 6 — Quality Control and Testing

Quality control is a major part of SUNWELL's manufacturing system. SUNWELL has passed ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BSCI and Sedex, and that it undergoes more than 10 factory audits per year by brand representatives or third-party organizations such as SGS and TÜV.

Product testing covers five main areas:

  • Electrical performance testing — for powered tools, including motor performance, speed, torque, battery endurance and cycle capability.
  • Mechanical performance testing — including hardness, material composition, tensile strength, cutting performance and durability.
  • Environmental testing — including simulated extreme temperatures and UV exposure.
  • Reliability testing — focused on long-term stability in use.
  • Transport simulation testing — simulating vibration and bumps during storage and transportation to evaluate product and packaging resistance to impact.

Relevant audit reports and test reports can be provided to customers. After production, the quality team checks whether the order meets customer requirements before shipment.


Step 7 — From Factory to Global Delivery

SUNWELL's production-and-delivery model is supported by a China base and a Thailand base. The China operation benefits from port access for global distribution, while the Thailand base — which entered production in July 2025 — is positioned primarily to support the North American market and improve supply-chain flexibility.

Indicative transit times are approximately 15–18 days to the U.S. West Coast and 25–28 days to Europe from the Thailand base. It also presents the Thailand operation as providing tariff advantages for North American customers.

For North American programs: the Thailand base can provide additional flexibility in tariff planning and delivery routing. Applicable tariff treatment should be confirmed according to product classification, origin and shipment date.

OEM/ODM Is the Core Cooperation Model

The company's primary cooperation model is OEM/ODM customization. The process covers requirement confirmation, internal evaluation, solution development, sample confirmation, order confirmation, production and delivery.

For mature products, SUNWELL also supports bulk purchasing. MOQ policies vary by product: some products can start from 50 pieces with tiered pricing, while certain higher-MOQ products — including specified hose-reel models — require 500 pieces.
